The agreement between your household and Know Before Zero — what the service is, what keeping it running requires of you, and what happens if your district ever blocks it.
The full terms below cover keeping your own portal credentials current (§03), acceptable use, and the usual liability language — worth a read if you want the complete picture.
Know Before Zero reads your household's own Home Access Center and Canvas accounts — using access you already hold as a parent or legal guardian — and turns what's there into a weekly report, exam-prep packets, and flags for missing or dropping work. We act as your household's agent using credentials you provide; we do not create, grant, or restore any access to a school system on your behalf.
"You," "your household," and "guardian" mean the owner guardian who subscribes and any co-guardian they invite. "We," "us," and "Know Before Zero" mean the Know Before Zero product and the person operating it.
Billing is annual — your year runs 12 months from the day you subscribe, not the school calendar — with no long-term contract. Within the first 14 days you can take a full refund yourself, for any reason, from your own account. After that you can cancel any time and keep access through the end of the year you've already paid for. Full pricing and the exact refund mechanics are shown before you ever pay, at /start, and on the pricing section of the homepage.
Your Home Access Center password and your Canvas observer token belong to you, not to us — they're issued by your district and Instructure directly to your household, and we have no ability to create, renew, or reset either one. Only you can do that.
Districts periodically expire portal passwords. Canvas access tokens can expire, be revoked by a password change on the linked account, or stop working for reasons specific to your district's own Canvas configuration. When that happens, we show it plainly as a connection error rather than silently going quiet — but reconnecting is your responsibility, the same way it would be if you were checking the portal yourself. A gap in your reports caused by an out-of-date credential you haven't reconnected is not a service failure, and is not eligible for a refund on its own.
We'll always tell you when a connection needs attention. We can't renew it for you.
This is the situation §03 is not about. If your district changes its policy and actively blocks the kind of automated portal access this product depends on — not a password that simply lapsed, but access being shut off at the district level — the product has genuinely stopped being deliverable. When that happens, we refund the unused part of your year, unprompted, without asking you to justify it. This is the same promise stated on our pricing page and again before you pay, at /start; it lives here too because the line between "your credential needs a refresh" and "your district cut off the access entirely" is the one distinction this whole page exists to draw clearly.
Telling the two apart is sometimes a judgment call — a household that isn't sure which situation they're in should reach out rather than assume either way.
The service is provided "as is." We work to keep it accurate and reliable, but we don't control Home Access Center, Canvas, your district's infrastructure, or Instructure's — any of which can change, go down, or behave unexpectedly without notice, and none of which is something we can guarantee. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the service, including a gap in reporting caused by a district or Canvas outage, a district policy change, or an unrenewed credential under §03. Our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing here limits a refund you're separately entitled to under §02 or §04.
You can cancel from your own account at any time. We may suspend or end an account that violates §05, that we reasonably believe is fraudulent, or where continuing to serve it isn't something we can do responsibly — we'll tell the owner guardian why, and any refund you're owed under §02 or §04 still applies.
If these terms change in a way that matters — what you're responsible for, what we're liable for, or how billing works — we'll email the owner guardian before the change takes effect, the same commitment we make for the privacy policy.
